After a break-in
Permanent protection, after the board-up
We step in at the next stage
On-site assessment
We come to measure and assess your opening directly on site, before any quote.
Custom manufacturing
Each shutter is made by VRM Industries to the real dimensions and constraints of your opening.
Burglary-resistance certified
Our Fortis 1.5 RC2 is RC2 certified to the European EN 1627 standard, which can help meet your insurer's requirements: high-density resin-core slat, hooks on both sides, reinforced tracks and anti-lift locking.
Information for the insurer
After installation, we prepare the useful information for your file: invoice, installation details and photos.
What to do in the next few hours
Contact the authorities
Report the incident to the police (SPVM or SQ) and get a report number, essential for your insurance claim.
Document the damage
Photograph each entry point and the property damage. The more complete your evidence, the stronger your claim.
Notify your insurer
Contact your insurer as soon as possible: policies often set a reporting deadline. Check with your broker.
Secure temporarily
An emergency board-up service can seal your opening quickly. It's a temporary measure: it doesn't protect against a repeat.

A burglarized premises remains an exposed opening
What exposes you
Businesses and homes that have suffered a break-in are more exposed to a second incident in the following weeks. Temporary closure stabilizes the situation; it doesn’t replace permanent protection.
- High risk of repeat in the weeks following the incident
- Your insurer may require permanent security before renewing your coverage
- Repair delays leave your opening vulnerable
Why temporary solutions aren’t enough
A nailed board or a plywood panel closes an opening. But it doesn’t deter, doesn’t insulate and doesn’t last.
See our security roller shuttersWhat a board doesn’t do
- Not certified: meets no recognized burglary-resistance standard
- Not durable: vulnerable to weather and to any new attempt
- Not covered: some insurers ask for permanent protection at renewal
- Not cost-effective: repeated repairs cost more than a permanent installation

What your insurer might ask after a break-in
Physical barrier sometimes required
Some insurers ask for physical protection after a first claim to maintain or renew coverage. Check with your broker.
Useful documentation
If your insurer asks for proof of installation, we prepare the useful information: invoice, installation details and photos.
Deadlines to respect
Some policies set a deadline after a claim to put the required measures in place. Acting quickly protects your coverage.
Insurance premium: check first
RC2-certified burglary-resistant protection, such as our Fortis 1.5 RC2, can help meet your insurer's requirements. Ask your broker whether it can lower your premium.

Frequently asked questions after a break-in
What is the difference between an emergency board-up service and VRM?
An emergency board-up service comes within hours of the incident to seal the opening: a temporary measure. VRM installs permanent, custom-made protection, including the RC2-certified Fortis 1.5 RC2 shutter, designed to reduce the risk of a repeat and that can help meet your insurer's requirements.
How soon after a break-in can roller shutters be installed?
We schedule an assessment visit as soon as the opening is temporarily secured. The final installation follows within weeks after measuring and custom manufacturing.
Can my insurer require roller shutters after a claim?
It's possible. After a burglary or an attempted intrusion, some insurers ask for additional security measures to maintain or renew coverage; check with your broker. Our Fortis 1.5 RC2 is RC2 certified to the EN 1627 anti-burglary standard.
Does VRM respond to emergencies after a break-in?
VRM does not offer a 24-hour emergency service. We handle the permanent protection: on-site assessment, custom manufacturing and installation. For immediate board-up, first contact an emergency board-up specialist.
Can the installation be covered by my insurance after a claim?
In some cases, your insurer may contribute to the cost of a permanent protection as part of the claim settlement or a required preventive measure. Check your policy or contact your broker.
What types of properties do you protect after a break-in?
Homes, condos, retail stores, restaurants, warehouses and institutional buildings. Each installation is custom-made to the dimensions and constraints of your opening.
